The Research Centre will hold written and practical exams as mentioned in the course structure.

All M.Phil./Ph.D. students must finish their coursework within the first two semesters. To pass,
students must get at least 55% marks or the equivalent grade on the UGC 7-point scale. Only those who pass
will be allowed to continue with their Ph.D. program.

Coursework Exemption and Rules
Any rules or exemptions related to the Ph.D. coursework will follow the college’s examination and evaluation guidelines.The coursework includes three papers, and all students must complete them as per the rules.

Ph.D. Coursework Requirements
Duration: Minimum of one semester (six months)
Total Credits: 18 credits
Credit System: The course follows a credit-based system
Completion Time: Students must complete all 18 credits within three semesters (1.5 years)
Coursework Structure: Pre-Ph.D. Preparation: Must be done in the first semester

Maximum Duration: Students can take up to three semesters to complete the  coursework
Requirement: Earning 18 credits is compulsory to move forward in the Ph.D. program.

Credits in Pre-Ph.D.

Coursework-
As per the UGC circular of December 2019, every research Centre must conduct a two-credit course titled “Research and Publication Ethics (RPE)” for all PhD students as part of their pre-registration coursework. This course aims to raise awareness about publication ethics and publication misconduct.

Research and Publication Ethics (RPE) – 2 Credits

Course Code: CPE-RPE

Overview-The course is structured into six units focusing on:
Basics of the philosophy of science and ethics. Research integrity and publication ethics. Hands-on sessions to identify research misconduct and predatory publications. Indexing and citation databases, open access publications, and research metrics (citations, h-index, impact factor). Introduction to plagiarism tools.

Pedagogy: Classroom teaching. Guest lectures. Group discussions. Practical sessions.

Evaluation: Continuous assessment through tutorials, assignments, quizzes, and group discussions

Active participation: Final written examination at the end of the course

Passing Standards for Pre-Ph.D. Coursework

Passing Criteria: To pass each course, a student must achieve a minimum of 55%. Examination Schedule: The Pre-Ph.D. course examinations will be conducted annually. Guidelines for Clearing

Pre-Ph.D. Coursework:

Internal Assessment Completed but Term-End Examination Failed: Result:Fail

Action: The student must re-register for the failed course(s) after the stipulated period. The course must be completed from the beginning (ab initio). Only one additional attempt is allowed. Students failing more than two courses must re-admit to the entire program.

Internal Assessment Not Completed:

Eligibility for Term-End Examination: Not eligible

Result: Fail

Action: The student must re-register for the failed course(s) after the stipulated period. The course must be completed from the beginning (ab initio). Students failing more than two courses must re-admit to the entire program.

Internal Assessment Completed but Absent in Term-End Examination Due to Exceptional Circumstances (e.g., hospitalization, family death, official work):

Result: A special re-examination can be conducted
Action: This is contingent upon recommendation by the Head of the Research Centre and the Principal, evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Re-registration Fees: Proportionate course fees will apply to students who need to re-register for any
course(s) they fail.

  • Coursework will be handled by the concerned guide/s.

RAC Guidelines for Research Scholars

1. Every research scholar must submit a six-monthly progress report through their research guide.
2. Scholars must also give a PowerPoint presentation about their research progress every six months before
the RAC.
3. The presentation should include previous suggestions, corrections, and any recent updates in research.
4. The presentation must be planned for 25 minutes, followed by a 5-minute Q&A session.
5. Scholars must submit both hard and soft copies of any publications during the PhD program at each RAC
meeting.
6. The hard copy of the publication should be signed by both the scholar and their guide.
