Vidya Prasarak Mandal (VPM), a renowned educational trust in Thane, was established in August 1935. In 1969, the college began operating under the University of Pune, offering courses in Arts, Commerce, and Science. Later, Hon. Shri Dayanand Bandodkar, the Former Chief Minister of Goa, generously donated Rs. 3,20,000/- for the construction of the Science College building. To streamline administration, the college shifted its affiliation to the University of Mumbai in June 1975. As a result, B. N. Bandodkar College of Science became an exclusive single-faculty Science College under the University of Mumbai. College received academic autonomy from UGC in July 2020.
The college actively participates in NAAC accreditation to ensure continuous improvement in academic and administrative excellence. It regularly submits data to the All-India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE), contributing to national educational statistics and policy-making. Similarly, it engages in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) to assess and enhance its academic and infrastructural standards. Thus, the college follows quality benchmarks set by regulatory bodies to maintain excellence in teaching, research and student support services.
