Established in 1969, the Department of Mathematics has been a cornerstone of academic excellence, committed to nurturing strong mathematical foundations among students. With a focus on both theoretical and applied aspects of mathematics, the department continually strives to enhance students’ analytical and problem-solving abilities.
To support effective teaching and learning, the department is well-equipped with modern infrastructure, including projectors, laptops, and other digital tools that facilitate an interactive learning environment.
Over the years, the department has organized several notable academic events. A seminar on “Financial Mathematics” was held on August 26, 2006, featuring eminent speakers such as Mr. Chandrashekhar Tilak (Vice President, National Securities Depository Ltd.) and Mr. Klinton DeSilva (Director, Atlina Securities Pvt. Ltd.), who delivered insightful talks on Investment Analysis and the Stock Market.
Another significant event was the seminar conducted on December 8, 2012, to mark the National Mathematics Year. The theme of the seminar was “Recent Research Trends in Mathematics”, which attracted a large audience of teachers and students from various colleges and received high appreciation.
The department has been shaped by the dedicated service of esteemed faculty members. Prof. R.S. Poddar, former Head of the Department, served with distinction for an impressive thirty-six years, significantly contributing to the department’s growth. Prof. Mrs. S.N. Joglekar, a highly respected academician, played a vital role in making mathematics a popular subject among students.
The department takes pride in its outstanding alumni, many of whom have excelled in university examinations. Notable among them are Mr. Mandar Khasnis, Ms. Umalaxmi Birajdar, and Ms. Nishigandha Kurhade.
Currently, the department is led by Mrs. M.T. Wankhede, who has been honoured with the Vamandada Kardak Ideal Teacher Award and the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Shiksha Award in 2007. Both Mrs. M.T. Wankhede and Ms. A.S. Shinde have presented numerous research papers at national and international conferences, further enriching the academic profile of the department.
