About Botany Department

      The Department of Botany was established in 1969 and has been a pioneering centre for plant science education and research. Committed to uplifting rural youth through quality higher education, the department offers undergraduate (B.Sc.), postgraduate (M.Sc. by Research), and doctoral (Ph.D.) programs in Botany.

      Over the years, the department has proudly produced more than 1,500 graduates, 15 postgraduates, and over 20 doctoral scholars, many of whom have carved successful careers across India and abroad. Several of our alumni hold distinguished positions in international universities, global corporations, and government organizations. In Maharashtra, many are recognized as experts and consultants in industry, education, and environmental protection.

Under the NEP 2020 framework, our VSEC syllabus in Botany is designed to blend core plant science with practical and industry-oriented skills. Courses include Instrumentation, Horticulture and Gardening, Floriculture, Spices and Condiments, Agro-tourism, Cosmetology, Herbal Sciences, Ethnobotany, Ethnoveterinary Medicine, Wild Vegetables, and Mushroom Cultivation. Emphasis is placed on hands-on learning through Field Projects, on-the-job training (OJT), and the application of Artificial Intelligence in Botany. This holistic approach nurtures entrepreneurship, sustainable livelihoods, and career readiness in both traditional and emerging green sectors.
